Canberra is the national focus city for NAIDOC Week 2019, providing an opportunity for all Canberrans to come together in recognition and celebration of the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future reflects three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The theme acknowledges that for generations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have sought to be the leaders and decision makers of their own lives and futures.
Canberrans will have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities and events throughout NAIDOC Week including:
11am - 4pm, University of Canberra
A family event to celebrate and acknowledge NAIDOC Week. There will be free rides, food stalls, live musical performances and plenty of activities for the kids.
11am - 2.30 pm, Woden Town Square
Celebrate the voices of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
A free day of fun for everyone with live music, performances, displays, children's workshop, hot lunch, stalls and more.
Saturday, 13 July NAIDOC in the North
11am - 2pm, Gungahlin Town Centre
NAIDOC in the North is a free, family-friendly celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through story, song, art, dance and ceremony.
